Everyone wants a lovely home, but it can be so expensive to try and replicate the houses you see online. Sprucing up your home doesn’t have to be expensive though, and if you’re willing to think outside the box, along with spending some time and putting in a little effort, you can easily make your home feel homely, letting it show off your personality without breaking the bank.
1.Second Hand Furniture
Furniture can be extremely expensive new and can sometimes seem impossible to afford if you’re on a tight budget. One way to overcome this is by buying second hand, whether this is through online auction sites, through adverts on social media or going to your local charity shop. Simply swapping out old furniture for something different can help to make your room feel completely different and much of the furniture available second hand is in amazing condition and very affordable, so it’s always worth keeping an eye out for what bargains you can spot near you.
2.Paint Over Wallpaper
Stripping wallpaper can be a pain and can make decorating a nightmare. It is time consuming and can be extremely costly to buy enough wallpaper, especially if it has patterns that you need to line up as this can lead to a lot of waste. If you’re wanting to make a room look completely different and have a fairly neutral wallpaper, you can buy a tin of paint and paint over the wallpaper, adding colour to a room and sprucing it up without having to spend lots on wallpaper, paste and equipment.
Whether this is upcycling what you already have, or buying very cheap second hand and upcycling that, doing this is a brilliant way to add your own personal touch to the furniture, as well as making it fit in with whatever colour schemes you have going on. It can be fun having a project on the go and you can have a huge feeling of accomplishment when you’ve finished, alongside having a completely unique piece of furniture which will be envied by all your friends.
Things such as jam jars can make lovely vases once they’ve been washed out, along with giving your home a cute, rustic vibe. This is so cheap to do, but doesn’t look it, making it a great way to add homely touches without having to spend lots of money. There are plenty of other ways to reuse things that are commonly found in the home and just a quick search online will have you full of ideas in no time.
There are lots of different ways to do up your home without having to spend your entire pay check, and these are just a few of them. No matter what you choose to do in your home, make sure that you reflect who you are and show off your personality – then there is absolutely no way that you won’t love where you live.
